January Moisture Report

Well, it’s certainly been a warm, dry start to winter in southwest Montana.

This big-game hunting season, deemed “lackluster” by FWP, was less productive than usual in large part due to warm November weather. Some lucky hunters who didn’t fill tags were even able to have an extended season in hopes of getting closer to elk population objectives. Fisherman, on the other hand, we’re able to get out and stay out in the mild weather for much of the late fall/early winter.

While it’s not exactly what we had hoped for, there’s no need to panic yet. Forecasters are anticipating a collapse of the Polar Vortex and subsequent shift in weather (which as we know, may or may not hit us). But while the next 10 days look bleak, models show what could be a significant shift toward the end of the month.

Fingers crossed!
